A peep into andblack Design Studio’s experiments

Ahmedabad-based andblack Design Studio, established in 2011, by architects Jwalant Mahadevwala and Kanika Agarwal explores the possibility of organic and user-friendly solutions through design. Both the founders holding postgraduate degrees from the Architectural Association, London, work together with a unique philosophy – combining Jwalant's dive into the generative process and Kanika's claim on sustainability. Here's an overview of their work straddling across varied genres of design: architecture, interiors, furniture, art, and installations.

Cutting-Edge Collaboration

A transformative installation harnessing the power of light, colour, and sound

An interactive installation offered attendees a rare opportunity to explore light, colour, and sound as integrative tools for wellness and architectural transformation. Participants were invited to engage creatively, using light as both an artistic medium and a therapeutic device, while sound and colour deepened the immersive experience. The collaboration between AWA Lighting Designers, SOULSARA and The Art of Place has illuminated a path toward creating environments where science and art converge to elevate human experiences.

AHEC collaborates on insiteKONNECT events

Two back-to-back events with students and faculty members of the country’s leading design institutes marked the start of a wonderful collaboration with American Hardwoods Export Council (AHEC). These insiteKONNECT events happened in the historic city of Ahmedabad – at CEPT and NID, on the 9th and 10th of December 2024 respectively.

Bharat Floorings & Tiles introduces a new collection in collaboration with HCPID

The BFT X HCPID Shunya Taal Collection celebrates a fusion of traditional Indian artistry and contemporary design, exemplifying a timeless aesthetic. “Each tile reflects the boundless potential of Shunya and the rhythmic grace of the tabla, uniting tradition with innovation,” shared Canna Patel, well-known architect helming the Ahmedabad-based studio HCPID; who collaborated on the collection.

Sagarmala Site @ Lothal

National Maritime Heritage Complex at Lothal, Gujarat by AHC

Ar. Karl Wadia, Ar. Apoorva Sharma and a team of architects at the studio of Architect Hafeez Contractor have designed the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) at Lothal, Gujarat. Currently under construction, the project which aims to showcase India’s ancient, rich and diverse maritime heritage, is under the aegis of Govt. of India’s Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. The foundation stone of the project was laid by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in March 2019. Components of NMHC primarily include the NHMC Museum, a recreation of Lothal town, an Aquatic Gallery, a Lighthouse Museum, Eco-resorts and Museuotel, Theme based parks, Maritime research institute and hostels will also be a part of the complex.
