Armed with a Masters in Architectural Conservation from SPA, Delhi, Abha Narain Lambah stormed her way into Mumbai’s clique of conservation architects in 1996. Establishing her practice as Abha Narain Lambah Associates, and weaving her way into some of the most challenging and best-known conservation projects across the Indian sub-continent, Abha’s journey is replete with inspirational stories.
Among the largest specialist conservation practices in India, ANL Associates has been involved in multiple sites of historical significance - including planning for ancient Buddhist sites of Ajanta and Bodh Gaya, 15th Century temples in Ladakh and Hampi, medieval mosques, palaces, forts and caravan sarais in Rajasthan, Hyderabad, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab, urban and regional conservation in Kancheepuram and Shekhawati, 19th Century colonial heritage in Delhi, Shimla, Pune, Bangalore, Mumbai and 20th century modern heritage in Corbusier’s Chandigarh and Art Deco Mumbai.
Notably, Abha has won 13 UNESCO Asia Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation – a feat not achieved by many. To name a few: in 2007 she won the Award of Excellence for the Conservation of the 15th Century Chamba Lakhang Buddha Temple in Basgo, Ladakh and the Award of Distinction for the Convocation Hall at Mumbai University; later she bagged Award of Merit for the restoration of the Royal Opera House - Mumbai, Chowmahalla Palace - Hyderabad, Bikaner House - Delhi, Chandramauleshwar Temple - Hampi, David Sassoon Library, and Keneseth Eliyahoo Synagogue, among others.
