Paying homage to culture alongside clearly contemporary stylistic features is the visible visual at Colonel Saab, a specialty Indian cuisine restaurant in London. After the huge popularity of the first outlet, the owners opened the second one in Trafalgar Square, the heart of the throbbing metropolis.
Tushar Joshi, the founder of Utkarsh Vastukaran has implemented the clients’ ideas and aspirations in the décor of this restaurant. The Choudharys – a seasoned hotelier family from India, are Joshi’s loyal clients for their Indian properties. Colonel Manbeer and his wife Binny are a well-travelled couple, with a vast collection of artefacts and souvenirs from across the sub-continent. When their son Roop Pratap decided to take the business to foreign shores, the design brief was to create a luxurious and personalised haven that pays tribute to the senior couple. Colonel Saab - the restaurant, as the name suggests, has a plethora of vintage art pieces, paintings and souvenirs collected by, of course, Colonel Saab.
The designer aimed to create a space that would reflect Indian culture while also paying homage to the Choudhary family’s stories and experiences. Crystal chandeliers at the entrance set the mood for a grand, palatial and high-end restaurant.
