Spread across an expansive 7.05-acre land parcel in southern Kolkata, Vyom is a residential complex set within a densely populated urban suburb, surrounded by smaller mid-level residential developments. With a mandated 20% green cover, the open spaces around the entire neighbourhood were strikingly devoid of properly organized greens.
However, the masterplan for Vyom provided a spacious 1.41-acre green area for landscape development – a green cover this size held the potential to contribute to the biodiversity of the entire neighbourhood! Alongside this green cover was a notified mandatory – yet currently dry – 0.5-acre pond, which was an added boon to the landscape. Thus, the landscape design began with some primary objectives – formalization of the mandatory open space through urban green density improvement, land and water symbiosis, ameliorating biodiversity of the region, and creating man-nature connect.
