A designer always takes inspirations from nature, perhaps the greatest designer is God himself. I appreciate beauty in any of its manifestations, observe it, and try to learn from it. The stillness of mountains, forests and rivers fills me with calm and peace,” says the Indore-based Manish Kumat, one of the most astute and philosophical architects I have met.
His philosophical musings include some very thought-provoking ideas on life, not necessarily related to designing but having a profound impact on his own design journey and style. “One is close to one’s own self only in times of pain and love. Pain and love are both sides of the same coin and are prerequisites to all original creations in the world.” A deeply spiritual thought, indeed.
A post-graduate from SPA, Delhi, Kumat established his practice in 1993. Manish Kumat Design Cell – as the practice is now known, has been continuously evolving and redefining itself over the past three decades. Approaching each project with a customized design intent appropriate to the generic design parameters, and primarily addressing the users’ needs, Kumat believes in the concept of flexible and timeless design.
