Born on November 23 ,1942, in Ohio, United States, Benninger’s journey into architecture was marked by a passion for blending traditional principles with modern innovations. He pursued his education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he earned the degree for Bachelor of Architecture in 1966. Subsequently, he went on to study at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, receiving a Master of Architecture degree in Urban Design in 1967.
After completing his education, Benninger embarked on a prolific career that spanned several decades and continents, evolving his architectural perspective. However, it was his experiences in India that profoundly shaped his approach to design. Resigning his tenure from Harvard, Prof. Christopher Benninger migrated to India and founded The School of Planning in 1971, and the Centre for Development Studies and Activities in 1976.
Benninger established his own practice, Christopher Charles Benninger Architects (CCBA), with offices in Pune and Mumbai, India. His architectural language seamlessly integrates modernist principles with vernacular traditions, resulting in projects that are both contemporary and contextually sensitive.
