Dr. Sarjoo Patel, Dr. Chaitali Trivedi Joshi, Ms. Shruti Chaudhari, Dr. Parag Shukla, from the M.S. University of Baroda and Mr. Kush Patel, from SVIT received the patent for a multipurpose chair, its design and affordability. The multidisciplinary interaction among all team members helped design a chair that is multifunctional, comfortable, affordable, and durable. The patent was issued on February 6, 2025.

A patent for a chair? Really? One of the most commonly used objects, a thing we take for granted….so mundane, isn’t it? Yet, don’t we all have our own favourite chair?!

So, what is it about that ‘one’ chair that we like it more than others? Certainly, it must be offering greater comfort; it must be more conducive for longer hours of sitting; and it must be ‘just right’ – like baby bear’s bed was for Goldilocks!

Good design is all about getting it ‘just right’. In technical terms, ergonomics is the key factor in a design achieving this state of being ‘just right’. And apparently these folks from MSU, Baroda have struck the ‘just right’ chord – with the design of this unusual chair.
