There are homes, there are large homes; and then there is Azaan! 17,600 sq.m. of built space – mind-numbing or what?! One has to blink twice and re-read the number to make sure your eyes got it right. And yet the architectural creation has a gentle grace imbued in soulfulness. Azaan is a home in Khajrana, Indore, designed for a large, joint Muslim family. The project also includes an office space and recreational areas.

Established in 1999, Environmental Design Consultants (EDC) is an architecture and interior design consultancy in Indore; founded and managed by architects Shital and Paresh Kapade. Co-founded by architects Vipuja and Krushnakant Parmar, UA Lab (Urban Architecture Collaborative) is an Ahmedabad-based multidisciplinary design studio, offering design consultancy in architecture, landscaping, and interior design. With a design process focused on the basic parameters of scale, proportions, daylight, ventilation and climatic comfort in the built environment, their design ideology aims to facilitate a synchronisation between innovation, humane spaces, and ambitious aspirations. In this 9,500 sq.ft. bungalow for a family on a massive plot, the designers have created a house that satisfies the clients’ specific needs and expectations.

Ar. Sanjay Patil established his practice Environ Planners in Nashik in 1981. Wholeheartedly supporting the 3R maxim of ‘Reduce, Recycle, Reuse’ – Environ Planners is firmly rooted in the ideology of sustainable design. The story started with a large barren plot on which Patil built a small farmhouse for his own family, and seized the opportunity to use a series of arches that he had procured from an old wada. To go with the farmhouse feel, lots of plants were planted all around. Twenty years and two hundred other wada-retrieved elements later, the story evolved; the plants grew taller, the flowers blossomed, the family needs changed… and the little weekend dig became a 5500 sq ft vibrant, engaging, and contemporary home with all the features of an old wada!

Founder & Creative Director of KKD Studio, Krish Kothari, with a Bachelor's degree in Science and Business Administration went on to get a Diploma in Design and Visual Communications from UWC Singapore. His flair for interior design eventually led to the establishment of KKD Studio in 2016. The Mumbai-based ultra-luxury design-build studio is dedicated to creating bespoke residential spaces. Featured here is a 4500 sq ft apartment in a plush Mumbai locality that radiates warmth, sophistication, and elegance.
