A Step Into the Past

Kaladwas Lal Haveli, Udaipur

A prime specimen of 18th-century Rajasthani architecture, the Kaladwas Lal Haveli was built by and has been lovingly maintained by the Chawra family of Varsoda. The haveli was restored by a team of heritage experts and skilled artisans who ensured that every detail, from structural reinforcements to intricate carvings, stayed true to the haveli’s original character. Parakram Singh Chawra, the present-day custodian of the haveli, has steered it to offer visitors an immersive experience of authentic Mewari culture and hospitality.

Now pursuing advanced studies in computational design at Columbia University’s Graduate School for Architecture, Preservation and Planning (GSAPP), Bhatia’s core interest in nature inspired technological innovations sees him explore the fascinating and new reality we now live in – generative AI. Bhatia's projects demonstrate how design can transcend the conventional boundaries of aesthetics, function, and context to engage with the world in new and unexpected ways.

Dalvi Associates, headed by architects Rahul and Swapnil Dalvi, is an architectural practice focused on contextual designing with a thorough understanding of users, environs, and architecture as a collective. Featured here is a project conceptualized on the basis of the clients’ vision of ‘Indian Sustainability,’ for a construction firm’s 2700 sq.ft. office.

Taj Vivanta, Pakyong by Prashant Pradhan Architects, Gangtok

A CEPT graduate, Ar. Prashant Pradhan went back to his homeland Sikkim to set up his independent practice - a multidisciplinary studio Prashant Pradhan Architects (PPA) in Gangtok. The design philosophy of being rooted in the context of the site reflects in all the work done by the studio. Here, we present one of the studio’s finest hospitality projects – and Sikkim’s first luxury hotel - Taj Vivanta, Pakyong.
